As the world watches the devastating situation unfolding in Eastern Europe, we cannot imagine the fear the people of Ukraine are experiencing right now. Ukraine has been under attack from Russia, with bombings destroying homes, villages and cities. The overwhelming loss the people of Ukraine are experiencing impacts students, staff and families right here in the Waterloo region community.

Our thoughts are with Ukrainians who are evacuating and leaving their homes behind; those who have to stay and fight; the government officials who are trying to manage this situation; and all the first responders who are helping during this time of crisis, but most of all with the children and youth living through this. We also want to acknowledge the fear and uncertainty the Ukrainian community of Waterloo Region are experiencing right now.

The images and conversations of War may trigger many emotions and feelings – not only from those with Ukrainian roots – so we ask that staff be mindful of the impact this situation has on students and give each other a little patience during this time.

What can you do?
